    School Year Goodbye!

    May 17, 2012

Dear Parents,   The last week of school is upon us and, as we look back over the past school year, it is a time to celebrate all of our experiences and accomplishments.  I know I speak on behalf of the faculty at Starwood Montessori School when I thank you for allowing us to be with your children everyday.  They are amazing individuals whose life-long potential is evident in all that they do.  We love each and every one of them!

We would also like to thank you for all of your support throughout the year.  It was a sad and challenging year for our staff as we experienced the loss of Ms. Betty.  In remembrance of her, we have hung a plaque dedicated to her memory in the school library.  We invite you to come in and view it as you have time.   I would like to give special thanks to Darla Franzen, who organized our “Teacher Appreciation Week”!  With your contributions, Darla was able to make us all feel greatly loved and recognized.  In addition, we would like to express gratitude to Kristen Whitehurst for her efforts in this special week.

I would also like to express my appreciation for the numerous parents who volunteered to watch the classes during the Teacher Appreciation Luncheon and all of the families who brightened our week with the beautiful flowers and presents we received.

Again, we have had a wonderful school year.  From all of us here at Starwood Montessori School, thank you for allowing us to be a part of your child’s life.  Have a wonderful and safe summer!

    Sincerely,

    Anita Hanks

    Teaching Teams: Sign Language Workshop

    Last updated 10 days ago

During Starwood Montessori's Teacher Inservice Day yesterday, our Toddler and Primary teaching teams attended a Sign Language Workshop.  Stephanie Flores led our group through her Sign Language course.

Stephanie Flores is a certified Sign Language instructor for My Smart Hands.  She has been using Sign Language with her students and children for the past six years.  She is a teacher at Las Colinas Elementary and uses Sign Language in her classroom to teach reading, vocabulary, spelling, and to aide with routines and discipline.  Stephanie has two daughters and has been signing with them since they were infants.  Her oldest is in a Montessori school and her youngest will start in the Fall.  She was excited to work with the Toddler and Primary teaching teams at Starwood Montessori School to show them ways to incorporate signing into their everyday routines in order to enhance the language rich environment.  The teachers had a blast and can’t wait to incorporate this new teaching tool into their classrooms!

    Montessori Cleaning Activities for Kids

    Last updated 17 days ago

Every child needs to learn how to clean up a mess, especially since the typical childhood involves so many of them! Learning to clean up after oneself is also an important part of the learning process; it teaches independence and responsibility. This video provides a simple demonstration of how a child can clean a table. All you need are paper towels, liquid soap, a sponge, and a bowl of water.

The Montessori Method has been providing children with an unparalleled learning environment for more than a century. At a Montessori school, your child will receive the encouragement, engagement, and opportunities that are so critical for long-term success in school. For more information on our programs, contact Starwood Montessori today at (972) 464-2597.
