4 Elements that Should be Included in Your Child's Curriculum

Last updated 1 month ago

Early education involves much more than learning shapes and the alphabet—it is a crucial time where children develop personality and intellect. A great curriculum will not only impart these basic skills but also provide the freedom for your child to explore and develop as a person. Consider the importance of the following four elements in your child’s curriculum.

 1.      Development

Recent data suggest that 50% of intellectual development takes place before four years of age, 30% between four and eight, and only 20% between eight and seventeen. Your child’s curriculum not only should focus on developing reading, writing, and arithmetic skills, but also the development of the thought process, morals, and social skills.

 2.      Self-Awareness

When children are first born, they are unable to distinguish themselves as unique entities in the world. Around two years, many children begin to understand the concept of “me” as an early form of self-awareness. Around four to five, children develop the ability to understand themselves as differentiated persons, but also understand how others perceive them. The development of self-awareness impacts how children see the world and how creatively they can examine and express feeling about themselves and others. Self-awareness helps young students and parents foster strengths and talents.

 3.      Enthusiasm

Most children have a natural desire to explore and communicate. Instead of forcing students to learn, schools should strive to present information in such a manner that the activities are fun. An enthusiastic teacher and exciting curriculum will hold students’ attention and help maintain control in the classroom. Instilling enthusiasm and a love of learning early in life will make school a positive experience, not a chore.

 4.      Concentration

It’s important that your child is presented with activities that teach him or her to concentrate. Concentration is one skill that can help your child succeed throughout school and life. The ability to focus on a task is crucial for your child to absorb information from the external environment and comprehend language and skills with and without formal teaching.
